Oscar winner Jen reveals all about new love and secret Scots wedding
GORGEOUS Jennifer Connelly, who has just finished a big-screen version of 'The Hulk', has talked for the first time about her very own Incredible Hunk - actor Paul Bettany, who she married in a secret ceremony in Scotland on New Year's Day.
Jennifer, who won an Oscar for her portrayal as the long-suffering wife of schizophrenic maths genius John Forbes Nash in 'A Beautiful Mind', told 192 how she fell in love with Paul while making the film two years ago.
Jennifer shone as the wife of the schizophrenic maths genius, played by Russell Crowe, while Paul starred as Crowe's imaginary classmate.
After filming, the couple decided to go their separate ways until they had split from their partners, finally reuniting last year.
They enjoyed a secret wedding on New Year's Day at Gilmerton House in East Lothian because Paul's dad - veteran actor Thane Bettany - lives in the area.
Just a handful of friends and family attended the ceremony, at which Jennifer broke with tradition by wearing black.
Talking about her husband for the first time, Jennifer said: "He's funny as hell. He's really fun. He loves to make fun of me for being American and he loves to talk about how he hates Americans, but he married one and he's living in America. It's fine. We joke about our nations' politics. We met during A Beautiful Mind, but we were both in other relationships at the time. I was really moved by him, but he was just someone that I worked with and I felt really strongly about not having things overlap and keeping things separate.
"So we finished the movie, he went back home and I stayed in my relationship for a long period and then we got together.
"He's an amazing, beautiful human being. He's funny and irreverent and smart, but really loving. He's a really great combination of things."
The couple have already planned the logistics of making their marriage work, by staggering work commitments in order to see each other as often as possible.
Jennifer explained: "I live in New York with my son Kai, who's five, and Paul.
"When he was doing 'Far Side Of The World' in Mexico, it was just a few hours to where I was so we just drove back and forth and I got to see him tons then.
"We're going to try our best to alternate so we can be with one another and try not to work at the same time unless we're working in the same city or close enough. We'll see how it goes."
The couple are expecting their first child in August. And while she's relaxed about having another baby she admits she was not so relaxed when working on 'The Hulk', in Ang Lee's big screen adaptation of the Marvel comic.
Jennifer plays Dr Betty Ross, the scientist girlfriend of Dr. Banner, played by Eric Bana, who turns an angry shade of green when riled. Jennifer first got her break in the Sergio Leone's 1984 'Once Upon A Time In America'. Her first big role after her debut came in 'Waking The Dead', 16 years later.
Then came 'A Beautiful Mind' -- which led to a beautiful life.
